Neighborhood overview
Point Loma forms the western edge of San Diego Bay, and it does not behave like one single neighborhood. Liberty Station and Loma Portal are flatter and more daily-life oriented, Ocean Beach-adjacent blocks lean casual and coastal, Shelter Island and the marina district revolve around the harbor, and the higher streets toward La Playa and the Wooded Area trade walkability for bay and skyline views.
The peninsula is anchored by Cabrillo National Monument, the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, Sunset Cliffs, yacht clubs, naval facilities, and Liberty Station's schools, parks, food halls, and arts campus. Buyers usually come for a quieter coastal life close to downtown, but the exact pocket matters: flight paths, hill access, traffic on Rosecrans, and military-adjacent routes all shape daily life.
