Julian Town Square Music Festival 2026: Free Mountain Music on June 6

Paul Stritmatter·May 29, 2026·5 min.

The 5th Annual Julian Town Square Music Festival returns June 6 — six live bands, free admission, mountain air, and a community fundraiser disguised as a perfect day trip.

##Overview

The 5th Annual Julian Town Square Music Festival returns Saturday, June 6, 2026 — a free, family-friendly, all-day outdoor concert in the heart of historic Julian, the mountain town an hour east of San Diego. Six live bands, over a dozen local vendors, mountain air, and a community fundraiser energy you can't fake. It's the opposite of every San Diego music festival you've ever been to — and that's exactly why people make the drive.

Event Overview

The Julian Town Square Music Festival started as the soft opening for the Julian Town Square project on June 4, 2022. Five years later, it's become the anniversary celebration of one of San Diego County's most quietly impressive grassroots projects — a community-funded transformation of a vacant lot at Main Street and Washington Street into a permanent town square that will eventually serve as Julian's hub for art, theater, and outdoor gatherings.

The whole festival is built around that mission. Every dollar from sponsorships, vendor fees, and donations goes toward the Town Square build-out. It's a small-town fundraiser disguised as a festival — which means the vibe is friendlier, the music is more eclectic, and the experience is closer to a community block party than a commercial event.

2026 Lineup

Six live bands across the day:

  • Donn Bree — Sponsored by Red Hawk Realty
  • Salinas Road — Sponsored by Julian Pie Co.
  • Elizabeth Bowersox — Sponsored by Calico Cidery
  • Rootful — Sponsored by Julian Beer Co.
  • Tim Flannery & The Lunatic Fringe — Sponsored by Awkward Deer Ranch, Community Valley Bank, and Frontwave Credit Union
  • Sara Petite — Sponsored by Dons Market

Worth noting: Tim Flannery is a familiar name to San Diego sports fans — former Padres infielder and longtime coach for the Giants, now leading his Americana band The Lunatic Fringe. He's been a fixture in the local roots-music scene for years.

Vendors

A dozen-plus local Julian and East County vendors:

  • Quecho's Elevated Mexican Eatery
  • The Toasty Tap
  • Me & Granny's Creations
  • Katy Angel ("Katy Makes Art")
  • Tara Holsapple
  • Rock Your World
  • Humble Abode
  • The Woven Paws
  • Julian Pathways, Inc.
  • Monica Rue Designs
  • Ksven Art
  • Seize the Clay Pottery
  • Heartstone Handmade

What to Bring

  • Lawn chair or blanket (limited seating provided by sponsors)
  • Cash for vendors, food, and donations
  • Sunscreen and a hat (Julian sits at ~4,200 ft elevation, sun is intense)
  • Layers — mountain weather can shift fast, especially as afternoon turns to evening
  • Reusable water bottle

Parking & Getting There

Parking is at Frank Lane Park, 2645 Farmer Road, Julian — $10 per car. The festival itself is a short walk from the lot to the Town Square at Main & Washington.

Drive time from central San Diego:

  • From downtown San Diego: 60–75 minutes via I-8 East and SR-79 North
  • From North County: 75–90 minutes via SR-78 East
  • From East County (El Cajon): 45 minutes via I-8 East

There's no public transit to Julian, so plan on driving. Cell service can be spotty in parts of the mountain route — download directions before you go.

Who It's For

  • Families — kid-friendly, all-ages, low-key environment
  • Music fans who like Americana, country, folk, and roots music more than indie rock or DJ sets
  • Anyone looking for a complete day-trip out of San Diego — pair the festival with apple pie, hiking, and Main Street wandering
  • People who want to support a local community project — the festival's fundraising mission is real

Make a Day of It in Julian

The festival kicks off at noon, so you have all morning to explore. A few ideas:

  • Julian Pie Company — The pie that built Julian's reputation. Sponsored a band at the festival, so they're clearly part of the community
  • Julian Hard Cider — Tasting room on Main Street, perfect pre-festival stop
  • Eagle Mining Co. — Historic gold mine tour, just outside town
  • Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve — 5-mile hike for great views before the music starts
  • Antique shops on Main Street — Julian's downtown is essentially one historic block
  • Mom's Pie House — The other essential pie stop (the local debate is real)

After the festival wraps, plenty of small inns and B&Bs make a full Julian weekend possible if you want to extend.
