More Than Pink Walk: Komen’s Sunday in Balboa Park, Nov 1

Susan G. Komen’s MORE THAN PINK Walk returns to Balboa Park Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026. Free to register; walk starts 8 a.m. Two routes, 2.5 or 1.5 miles.

Susan G. Komen’s San Diego MORE THAN PINK Walk is back in Balboa Park on Sunday, November 1 — the local stop of the series that replaced Race for the Cure in 2018. Registration is free. The point of the morning is fundraising and showing up, not a race bib.

Overview

Komen bills this as their largest fundraising event series: 40-plus in-person walks (and one virtual), built around survivors, people in treatment, and people living with metastatic breast cancer. The San Diego site is the west lawn of Balboa Park along Sixth Avenue at El Prado, ZIP 92103 — grassy area bordered by El Prado/Laurel, Sixth, Balboa Drive, and Juniper.

The Balboa Park calendar lists a 5:00–11:00 a.m. window. Use Komen’s day-of schedule instead:

  • 6:30 a.m. — on-site registration and event site open (pillar zones, We Remember tent)
  • 7:20 a.m. — opening ceremony, Pathway of Hope
  • 8:00 a.m. — walk begins
  • 9:45–11:00 a.m. — post-walk celebration and mascot dance-off

The two routes

The main course is about 2.5 miles. It uses SR-163 and includes a steep climb on the Quince Street exit ramp. If you do not want the freeway or that hill, Komen runs a 1.5-mile loop through Balboa Park.

Strollers are allowed. Leashed dogs are allowed on the course and in the event area.

What it costs

Komen’s walk FAQ: no registration fee. They want you to fundraise. Survivors and people living with metastatic breast cancer get a mailed event shirt if they register by Sunday, October 4, 2026, 11:59 p.m. CT. Same cutoff to have a $100 fundraising shirt in hand on walk morning. No shirts at the park that day.

Parking (this is the part people miss)

Do not try to drive across the Laurel Street Bridge to the start from the east side of the park — they close that. Walk about a mile from the east side if you park there (15–20 minutes).

Lower Inspiration Point (Park Boulevard at Presidents Way, east side) is the free satellite lot, first-come. Register your plate at a kiosk from 6:00 a.m. (or Park Smarter after 8:00 a.m.). Enforcement starts at 11:00 a.m. Shuttles 6:15–9:00 a.m. to the site (drop at Fifth north of El Prado); return shuttles 9:00–11:00 a.m. from Fourth north of El Prado. Ride is 10–15 minutes.

Meters on Sixth north of El Prado are not free on Sundays. Carpool or get dropped.
