Chris Stassy at Gallagher Square: A Halloween Night Three-Hour Set

Paul StritmatterSep 29, 20264 min.

Dutch deep house producer Chris Stassy plays a three-hour Halloween night set at Gallagher Square, Petco Park on Saturday, October 31 — doors at 5, out by 11, 18 and over.

Overview

Halloween night at Petco Park belongs to deep house this year.

Chris Stassy plays a three-hour set at Gallagher Square on Saturday, October 31, presented by LED — an outdoor, open-air show in the middle of Downtown San Diego, running from doors at 5:00 PM until 11:00 PM.

A three-hour set is the thing to understand here. Most festival and support slots run 60 to 90 minutes; three hours is a proper extended set, the format where a DJ actually gets to build something rather than sprint through the hits. For an artist of Stussy's kind — deep, patient, groove-led house — that is the format the music was made for.

Who Is Chris Stassy?

Chris Stassy is the stage name of Niels Christian Steenbergen, a Dutch DJ and producer from Leiderdorp who has spent the last few years becoming one of the more recognisable names in deep house.

He founded his own label, Up the Stuss, in 2020, and has released through Fuse London, Kaoz Theory, PIV and Rutilance. His 2024 single "Desire" has passed 43 million Spotify streams, and he has more than three million monthly listeners. He also has a collaboration with Moby — "Go" (2024) — and a debut album, Lost, Found & Forgotten, out in 2026.

His live résumé is the part that explains a Petco Park booking: DC10 and Amnesia in Ibiza, Coachella, Creamfields.

Where to start if you don't know him:

  • "Desire" (2024) — the one with 43 million streams, and the obvious entry point
  • "All Night Long" (2023) — the breakthrough
  • "Go" with Moby (2024)
  • The Midtown Playground EP on Fuse

The sound sits in deep house and deep tech: warm, rolling, more concerned with groove than with drops. If your reference point for electronic music in San Diego is main-stage festival EDM, this is a different thing entirely — closer to what you would hear in a basement in Amsterdam at 2 AM, played outdoors at a baseball stadium.

The Venue

Gallagher Square is the open green space beyond center field at Petco Park, and it has quietly become one of the better outdoor concert spaces in the county. It is genuinely open-air, it is walkable from most of downtown, and unlike a lot of stadium shows the sightlines are relaxed rather than assigned.

Being at Petco Park also means ballpark rules apply. Check the Padres' prohibited items list before you go — bag policies at MLB venues are stricter than at most standalone music venues, and it is a long walk back to the car.

The location is the other advantage. Downtown San Diego and the East Village surround the ballpark, so dinner before and a bar after are both a short walk rather than a drive.

Good to Know

  • It is 18+, so bring valid ID
  • It starts early and ends early. Doors at 5:00 PM and out by 11:00 PM — this is not a club night that runs until 3 AM
  • Dress for October at the water. Gallagher Square is outdoors and downtown San Diego cools off quickly after dark, even on Halloween
  • It is Halloween, so expect costumes, and expect downtown to be busy independently of this show
  • Parking downtown on a Saturday night is expensive and slow. The Green Line trolley stops at Gaslamp Quarter, a few minutes' walk away, and rideshare drop-offs around the ballpark get congested at end of night

Make a Night of It

The ballpark sits at the edge of the East Village, and Downtown San Diego has the densest run of restaurants and bars in the county within a few blocks of the gates. With doors at 5:00 PM, eating first and walking over is the easy play.

If you are coming from the coast, Point Loma and Coronado are both a short drive or a ferry ride out, and Hillcrest and North Park are ten minutes north if you want somewhere to go after 11.
