The short version
Old Poway Park and Lake Poway are separate anchors for a first visit.
Poway is an inland city where two public destinations provide a useful introduction. Old Poway Park on Midland Road brings together the Heritage Museum, Nelson House, and the Poway Midland Railroad. The city's park page also lists a Saturday farmers market. Check current train and museum schedules before building a visit around them.
Lake Poway is a different outing, with its own park access and fishing and boating arrangements. The lake is not a substitute for evaluating the streets around a potential home: a property described as being in Poway can have a very different relationship to Midland Road, the lake, and daily errands.
Plan a visit in two parts. Walk the Old Poway Park area to understand the historic center, then visit the lake and note the route between them. For a move, use that same approach with a work trip and grocery stops. The right comparison is the complete pattern of travel from an exact address, not simply proximity to a trail or park on a regional map.
