Glam Slam: Social Tennis, Matcha, and Matching Outfits by the Beach
A beginner-friendly social tennis afternoon in Pacific Beach — coaching for every level, a matcha bar, wellness goodie bags, and a themed dress code.
Overview
Part clinic, part social club, part photo op — Glam Slam is the flagship event from Coastal Court Society, a San Diego tennis community built around the idea that the sport should feel welcoming rather than intimidating. Every edition pairs local coaches with an outfit theme, a matcha bar, and goodie bags, and genuinely means it when it says all levels: people who have never held a racquet show up alongside players who league on weekends.
The September edition runs Sunday, September 20, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Pacific Beach Tennis Club, and this one moves to the afternoon after a run of morning events — which is a better slot for it. You get the courts in golden-hour light, which does the themed-outfit photos a real favor, and it's a considerably easier ask than a 9 a.m. Sunday. The dress code this time is to come in your favorite tennis outfit and twin with a friend, or go Wimbledon White.
The group runs these roughly monthly with rotating themes, times, and occasionally venues, so the specifics below are for this edition.

How the Afternoon Runs
- 3:45–4:00 — Check-in
- 4:00–4:15 — Group warm-up
- 4:15–5:15 — Clinics, split into beginner with Coach Norman and intermediate with Coach Kavya, with the groups swapping coaches at the 30-minute mark
- 5:15–7:00 — Social hour: photos, goodie bags, matcha pickup, and free play
The structure is the thing that makes this work for nervous beginners. You are never dropped onto a court alone with a stranger — the warm-up is a group, the clinic is coached, and the social portion is where the actual meeting-people happens, once everyone has already hit a ball together.
What's Included (and What to Bring)
Your ticket covers court time with hands-on coaching, your choice of featured drink — a mocktail matcha-tini, or a cold brew or matcha from local brand Dark and Steamy — and a wellness goodie bag from local brands.
Bring your own racquet, or message Coastal Court Society on Instagram ahead of time to arrange borrowing one. Wear shoes with good lateral support; running shoes are the wrong tool for side-to-side movement on a court and are how people roll ankles.
Good to Know
- All levels welcome — the beginner clinic is a real beginner clinic, not a polite label
- 18 and up
- Free parking, with details sent before the event
- It's a non-alcoholic, wellness-leaning afternoon — the featured drinks are mocktails, so don't arrive expecting a bar
- Refunds close two days out, which is tighter than some previous editions
- Tickets are limited — these have sold out before, so don't sit on it
- Coaching is available after the event if you catch the bug
