Comic-Con 2027: The Badge Sale Is November 14, and Here's How It Actually Works
Comic-Con 2027 is July 22–25. The part that matters right now is November 14 — the public badge sale — and the free account you need to set up before it.
Overview
Comic-Con 2027 runs July 22–25 at the San Diego Convention Center, with Preview Night on Wednesday, July 21.
That's nine months away, which is why most people aren't thinking about it. They should be thinking about it now, because the thing that decides whether you go happens in three and a half weeks.
Here's the one thing to understand, and it's the whole reason this article exists.
Open Registration — the public badge sale — is Saturday, November 14, 2026. It is open to anyone with a Comic-Con Member ID.
And you cannot buy a badge without a Member ID. It's free, it takes a few minutes, and it is not a badge — Comic-Con states plainly that registering "does not reserve or guarantee you a badge." But without one you can't even enter the queue.
So the action item is: go create a Member ID today, not on November 13. You need a valid, confirmed account with a unique email address, and you need to be opted in to their emails to get the sale announcements. One Member ID per person, minimum age 13.
The second thing to understand is that showing up early doesn't help. This is not a first-come-first-served sale. Comic-Con puts everyone into a virtual waiting room and then draws a randomized queue. Their own words: "you are not guaranteed a badge purchase during either sale, regardless of when you enter the virtual waiting room."
Get in the room. After that it's luck.

| Sunday | $67 | $34 |
- Add a $15 handling fee per member, on top of the badge price.
- Children 12 and under are free with a paying adult.
- Preview Night cannot be bought on its own. You can only add it if you're buying Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
- Buy all four days and they convert automatically to a 4-Day badge.
- Cards only — Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. No PayPal. Payments are processed later, typically within 72 hours.
For the arithmetic: a full four-day adult badge plus Preview Night comes to $398 before the handling fee — $88 × 3, plus $67 for Sunday, plus $67 for Preview Night.
How the Sale Actually Runs
Based on how Comic-Con ran the October sale, here's the shape of it:
- A virtual waiting room opens before the sale. In October that was 90 minutes ahead of time.
- You get placed in a randomized queue. Being in the waiting room does not guarantee you a session.
- If you're selected, you get a short window — 15 minutes in October — to complete your purchase.
- You can buy for up to three members in one session, including yourself.
- Badge confirmations come later, after the refund deadline passes.
Comic-Con has not published the start time for the November 14 sale, so watch your email — that's what the Member ID opt-in is for.
Things That Catch People Out
- Your badge name must match your photo ID. Badges are non-transferable and you'll be asked for ID on arrival. Buying a badge in a friend's name and swapping doesn't work.
- A badge doesn't guarantee you get into anything. Comic-Con's own line: "Your Comic-Con badge does not guarantee access to any event if it has reached its capacity." The badge gets you in the building. Panels are their own queue.
- Comic-Con is the only official seller. They state it directly, and they don't sell "tickets" — only badges. Anything else is resale.
- Attendance is capped. Comic-Con says the cap exists "because of increased interest in Comic-Con and limited space at the San Diego Convention Center," and warns that badges "sell out very quickly."
- Hotels are a separate process with its own timing, run through Comic-Con's hotel reservation company. Watch for that announcement too.
- Press, professional and first-time-attendee registration all happen separately, on dates Comic-Con hasn't published yet.
If You Don't Get One
Two genuine alternatives, both run by the same organization:
- WonderCon 2027 — March 26–28, Anaheim Convention Center. Badges are on sale now, with discounted 3-day badges during an early-bird period. It's the same organization, 900-plus exhibitors and a 412,000-square-foot exhibit hall, and it's a far easier ticket.
- The Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park, open year-round. Current and upcoming exhibits include Doctor Who: Worlds of Wonder, Chas Addams: Family and Friends, Masquerade: The Art of Cosplay and Center Stage: The Art of Mel Marcelo. San Diego County residents get in free on the second Tuesday of most months.
One more route worth knowing: the museum's "Become a Legend" membership includes a Comic-Con 2027 four-day badge plus Preview Night. If badges are the goal, that's a path that doesn't depend on the lottery — worth pricing against a standard badge before November 14.
Worth Remembering
Comic-Con is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit — San Diego Comic Convention — "dedicated to creating the general public's awareness of and appreciation for comics and related popular art forms." It's easy to forget, given the scale, that the whole thing is a charity.
