Little Frenchie: A French Bistro on Coronado’s Orange Avenue

William RouttOct 1, 20264 min.

Little Frenchie is a Parisian-style bistro on Coronado’s Orange Avenue: Le Brunch daily, imported French cheese, and a 40-bottle wine list. Reservations recommended.

Little Frenchie is the Parisian bistro on Orange Avenue that actually keeps all-day hours. Not a Hotel Del dining room, not a special-occasion-only tasting menu — a chef-driven café at 1166 Orange Avenue where you can do pastry at 9 a.m. and wine and cheese after the beach.

Blue Bridge Hospitality (the Coronado group behind the frenchie@bbhca.com inbox) opened it in 2019. OpenTable still lists Matt Sramek as executive chef. The house description is Provençal classics, imported French cheese, and a France-plus-California wine list, with produce from regional farms and seafood from local boats. Take that as the intent, then look at the rotating board when you sit down.

Overview

Hours on the restaurant site:

  • Sunday–Thursday: 9 a.m.–9 p.m.
  • Friday–Saturday: 9 a.m.–10 p.m.
  • Le Brunch: daily, 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
  • Champagne happy hour: Sunday–Thursday, 4–6 p.m.

OpenTable’s price band is $30 and under. Dress is listed as business casual. Patio, takeout, wheelchair access, and a dog-friendly tag are on that listing too.

They do not require a reservation and they do fill up. Check OpenTable before you walk in. Phone (619) 374-7988; email frenchie@bbhca.com if nobody picks up.

What You Need to Know

  • Where: 1166 Orange Avenue, Coronado, CA 92118
  • Neighborhood: Coronado
  • Brunch staples they name: bruléed French toast, croque monsieur, avocado tartine, crêpes, pastry basket
  • Pastry drop: cronuts and cruffins at Le Brunch, dine-in, 9 a.m. until sold out; six or more can be pre-ordered for later in the week
  • Wine: 40+ rotating bottles (France and California), most by the glass, bottles to go
  • Cheese: imported French boards sized for groups of about 4–18; custom boards with 48 hours’ notice
  • Happy hour: Champagne, Sunday–Thursday 4–6 p.m. (confirm the current pour list when you go)

Getting There

Orange Avenue is the island’s main street. OpenTable lists no dedicated parking. Plan on street parking like the rest of this block — easier on a weekday lunch than a Saturday 7 p.m.

The Coronado ferry and the bridge both dump you within a short walk or a short ride of 1166. If you’re already on the island for the Hotel Del or the beach, this is the Orange Ave stop, not a second trip.

Good to Know

This is all-day bistro, not a 90-minute tasting. If you want the pastry case, show up at 9. If you want a table at dinner, book OpenTable. If you want Champagne at 4 p.m. on a Sunday, that’s the posted window.
