The Padres' 2027 Schedule: Opening Day Is March 25 at Petco, and It's a Four-Game Series
Opening Day at Petco on Thursday, March 25 — a four-game series against Arizona that runs through Easter. Plus the dates worth buying early.
Overview
Opening Day 2027 is Thursday, March 25, at Petco Park, against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
And it's a four-game series, not the usual three. The Opening Series, presented by Sycuan Casino Resort, runs March 25 through 28 — finishing on Easter Sunday. The Rockies follow immediately, March 29–31, which makes the first homestand a full week of baseball to start the season.
The Padres open at home. No road trip first, no waiting. Week one is here.
Here's the most useful thing in the whole schedule if you're planning rather than just following.
First pitch times are consistent and already published. 6:40 p.m. for the majority of weeknight home games, 5:40 p.m. most Saturdays, and 1:10 p.m. most Sundays. You can plan a whole summer around that without waiting for the full time-by-time release. (National TV windows can move individual games.)
The Dates to Buy Early
The holiday games, which are the ones that go first:
- Easter Sunday, March 28 — Diamondbacks, closing the Opening Series
- Father's Day, Sunday June 20 — Pirates
- Independence Day, Sunday July 4 — Rays
- Labor Day, Monday September 6 — Giants
Four holidays, four home games. If you buy one set of tickets a year, it's one of those.
The Nine-Game Homestand
May 10–19 is the stretch to plan around — a 10-day, nine-game homestand:
- Royals — May 10–12
- Reds — May 14–16
- Mets — May 17–19
Three different opponents in ten days without leaving downtown. If you're bringing visitors, this is the window.
The other long home run comes straight out of the All-Star break: a six-game stand with the Mariners July 16–18 and the Angels July 19–21.
The Rare Visitors
This is the part worth knowing if you collect opponents rather than just weekends. Interleague rotation means some teams almost never come here, and the Padres have flagged exactly how rare these are:
- Rays — July 2–4. Only their fifth regular-season appearance in San Diego, ever
- Guardians — August 23–25. Also only their fifth
- Red Sox — May 28–30. Their seventh visit
- Royals — May 10–12. Also their seventh
- Orioles — April 30–May 2. Their eighth
The Rays series lands on Fourth of July weekend, which makes it the single best-value ticket on the calendar — a holiday game and a team you'll next see here in several years.
Also home from the American League: Mariners July 16–18, Angels July 19–21, Rangers September 17–19.
The Shape of the Season
- Opening homestand: March 25–31
- The only three-city road trip is early — 10 days and 10 games at Arizona (April 16–18), Colorado (April 19–22) and Minnesota (April 23–25)
- Two doubleheaders: against the Cubs on June 22, and in Colorado against the Rockies on July 10
- The season ends on the road — Arizona September 21–23, then Chicago (AL) September 24–26
Note that last one if you like a season finale at home: there isn't one in 2027. The final homestand of the year wraps before the club heads out, so the Rangers series September 17–19 is the last home weekend of the regular season.
Divisional home weekends against the Dodgers and Giants are on the calendar, with the Giants confirmed for Labor Day. Other home opponents include the Brewers, Marlins, Nationals and Pirates.
Getting Tickets
- Single-game tickets: an on-sale date hasn't been announced yet
- Season tickets: current members get renewal information, and the club directs new interest to the Padres On-Deck Membership Waitlist — 619-795-5015, or padres.com/waitlist. That waitlist is how priority access works, so joining early is the whole strategy
- Groups and suites: place a deposit after requesting information at padres.com/groups
- The schedule is subject to change, and the full list of game times comes later
Good to Know
- Opening Day is a Thursday. Plan the day off now — it's the single hardest ticket of the year and it's mid-week.
- The Opening Series is four games, not three. More chances at opening-week baseball than usual.
- 6:40, 5:40, 1:10. Weeknight, Saturday, Sunday. That's your planning grid.
- Fourth of July is a Sunday in 2027 — a 1:10 p.m. first pitch against a team that's been here four times ever.
- May 10–19 is nine home games in ten days. The best stretch for out-of-town guests.
Why It Matters
Petco Park is the most reliably pleasant place to spend three hours in this city, and the 2027 calendar gives you the two things that make a season plannable: an early home opener and a published time grid.
Start with the four holiday games and the Rays on July 4. Everything else you can decide in March.
