What You Actually Need to Know

• Where: Petco Park — 100 Park Blvd, San Diego, CA 92101, in the East Village of downtown, right next to the Gaslamp Quarter
• Tickets: 100% digital via the free MLB Ballpark app — screenshots aren't accepted at the gates, so load your tickets in the app ahead of time (and transfer one to everyone in your party)
• Cashless park: Petco Park is card and mobile-pay only (credit/debit, Apple Pay, Padres Pay); reverse ATMs are on site if you have cash
• Gates: typically open about 90 minutes before first pitch (earlier for members and the Gallagher Square gate)
• Game length: plan for roughly three hours
• All ages welcome: kids under 36" tall get in free on an adult's lap (no separate seat)

Getting There

Petco Park sits right in the heart of downtown, which makes transit the easy, stress-free choice — and it's what the team and the city both recommend over driving.

Take the Trolley. All three MTS Trolley lines — Green, Orange, and the UC San Diego Blue Line — stop at the 12th & Imperial Transit Center, right at the ballpark's doorstep, running about every 15 minutes on gamedays. Pay with a PRONTO card or contactless credit/debit. From North County, the COASTER train offers service downtown as well.

If you drive, pre-purchase parking. Garages and lots around the ballpark start around $15, but they sell out on popular gamedays — buy ahead through the Padres' official parking or an app like SpotHero, and arrive early. Accessible parking is available at the 6th & K Parkade.

Rideshare has a designated drop-off and pick-up zone across from the Bayfront Hilton on Harbor Drive and Park Boulevard; from there, take the pedestrian sky bridge toward the ballpark.

The Petco Park Experience

A few things make a Padres game here special beyond the baseball:

Gallagher Square. The grassy gathering space behind center field got a $20-million glow-up and is one of the best features in baseball — lawn seating with a big screen, an expanded kids' playground and mini Play Ball Field, an off-leash dog park, and the Tony Gwynn Terrace with its statue honoring Mr. Padre. It's family central and a great, budget-friendly way to take in a game.

Party in the Park. Every Friday home game, Gallagher Square turns into a pregame party from when gates open until first pitch — live music, a lively atmosphere, and drink specials starting at $5. Get there early for it.

The Western Metal Supply Co. Building. The historic 1909 red-brick warehouse built right into the left-field corner is a genuine architectural landmark and one of the most distinctive sights in the majors.

Views and sightlines. The park was designed so the concourses face both the field and the city, and the batter faces north — which means the grandstands look out over the downtown skyline and San Diego Bay. MLB calls them some of the best sightlines in baseball, and they're not wrong.

The food and beer. This is a ballpark where the food is genuinely part of the fun — lean into San Diego specialties like fish tacos, carne asada fries, and California burritos, and take advantage of one of the best craft-beer scenes in the country throughout the park.

Good to Know

• Bag policy is strict. Only single-compartment clear plastic bags no larger than 12" x 6" x 12", or a small clutch/purse no larger than 5" x 7", plus infant and medical bags. No backpacks; all bags are searched and there are metal detectors at every gate — travel light to breeze through security.
• Outside food and drink generally aren't permitted, with the usual exception of one sealed, clear water bottle (and medically necessary items). Check the current A-to-Z guide if you're unsure.
• Re-entry is allowed — scan out and back in — except on select giveaway days until items run out or the third inning.
• Buy tickets and parking ahead, arrive early to enjoy Gallagher Square and the food before first pitch, and update the Ballpark app before you go so your tickets scan cleanly.
• More than baseball: Petco Park is also a top concert venue, hosting major headliners venue-wide and on Gallagher Square's Sycuan Stage.
