SnowJam San Diego: The $6 Upgrade That Pays for Itself in One Lift Ticket
A three-day preseason gear blowout at the Del Mar Fairgrounds — and a six-dollar decision at checkout that most people get wrong.
Overview
San Diego is not a ski town. It is, however, a four-hour drive from several of them, and once a year the entire preseason gear market sets up in a hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds and sells skis, boards, boots and outerwear from hundreds of brands at preseason prices — with boot fitters on site and everything going home with you the same day.
That's SnowJam. It runs November 20, 21 and 22, 2026, and it happens once a year in each city it visits.
Here's the thing to understand before you buy a ticket, because it's a genuinely bad decision to get wrong.
There are two tickets, they're six dollars apart, and only one of them includes free lift tickets.
- General Admission is $17. It gets you in the door. The site is explicit: expo entry only, no lift ticket vouchers.
- SnowJam Membership is $23. Same entry, plus the free and discounted lift ticket vouchers from participating resorts — claimed in person at the expo.
Six dollars. And the member voucher list for San Diego this year includes a free lift ticket at Brian Head valid seven days a week, a free lift ticket at Arizona Snowbowl valid seven days a week, a free Monday-through-Friday ticket at Mt. Baldy with 50% off weekends, and a buy-one-get-one at Snow Valley.
One day on a mountain costs considerably more than six dollars. Unless you are certain you're going to buy gear and never ski this season, General Admission is the wrong ticket.
And the clock matters. The San Diego page says prices go up November 1 — $17 becomes $18, $23 becomes $25. Not a huge jump, but it's free money to buy before the first.

The Member Vouchers, Spelled Out
This is the part that justifies the ticket, so here's the actual lineup for San Diego. Vouchers go to members only, must be claimed at the live expo, and every one carries its own blackout dates.
- Brian Head — free lift ticket, valid seven days a week. Blacked out Dec 19–Jan 3, MLK weekend (Jan 16–18) and Presidents' week (Feb 13–21).
- Arizona Snowbowl — free lift ticket, seven days a week. Blacked out Dec 27–31, MLK (Jan 16–18) and Presidents' (Feb 13–15).
- Mt. Baldy — free lift ticket Monday through Friday, 50% off Saturdays and Sundays. Blacked out Dec 25–Jan 3, MLK and Presidents'.
- Lee Canyon — free lift ticket Monday through Friday. Must be redeemed online at least one day in advance, so this one takes planning.
- Snow Valley — buy one, get one free on an all-ages one-day ticket. Blacked out Dec 19–Jan 3, MLK and Presidents'.
- Snow Valley, Snow Summit and Bear Mountain — exclusive member savings across the three.
- Palisades Tahoe — member savings on lift tickets, lessons, rentals, lodging and select activities, through a promo code in your membership account.
- Big Bear Cool Cabins — lodging savings for members planning a Big Bear trip.
Read the blackout dates before you plan a trip around any of this. Nearly every voucher excludes Christmas through New Year's, MLK weekend and Presidents' week — which is to say, the three stretches most people actually take off. These are midweek and shoulder-season tickets, and they're excellent if your schedule is flexible.
Insider Tips
- Friday night is the longest session and the one to pick. Four to ten is six hours, it's the only evening slot, and it's before the weekend crowd picks the inventory over. Saturday and Sunday are both shorter days.
- Go Friday, ski the midweek. The voucher blackouts push you toward weekday skiing anyway, so the whole thing rewards a flexible schedule.
- Buy before November 1. It's a few dollars, but it's a few dollars for doing nothing.
- Get boot-fitted even if you're not buying boots. There's a dedicated fitting area staffed by people who ride. Knowing your actual shell size is worth the trip on its own.
- Bring a way to carry things. You're taking gear home the same day, and skis and boards don't fit in a tote.
- Budget for parking. The fairgrounds normally charges for event parking and SnowJam's page doesn't mention it either way, so don't be surprised at the gate.
- Bring the kids. Under 14 is free with a paid adult, and growing kids are exactly who benefits from a preseason sale.
Why It's Worth the Trip
The honest case for SnowJam isn't the sale — it's that trying on ski boots is nearly impossible to do well in San Diego the rest of the year. There's no shop here with a wall of this season's and last season's inventory and someone who rides standing next to it.
For one weekend at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, there is. Add a free lift ticket for six dollars over the base price, and it's one of the better-value weekends on the November calendar.
