A Full HYROX Race Simulation in Pacific Beach, Three Weeks Before Anaheim
Race-day waves, race-day timing, race-day stations — a full HYROX dress rehearsal before Anaheim, for $45. Solos, doubles and relays.
Overview
If you've signed up for HYROX Anaheim and you've been training for it without ever having done the thing end to end, this is the event that fixes that.
Fitness Quest 10 Pacific Beach is running a full HYROX simulation on Sunday, November 8, from 8 a.m. to noon. It's $45 per person, and it's open as solos, doubles and relays.
The gym's own framing: "One last full HYROX Simulation before HYROX Anaheim."
Here's the thing that makes this different from a hard workout, and it's the whole reason to do it.
They're running race-day conditions, not a race-day workout. In their words: "We're mimicking race day as closely as possible — waves, timing, stations + the full race format — so you can test your pacing, transitions, strategy, and see exactly where you're at before the real thing."
Waves. Timing. Stations. The full format.
That matters because the thing that goes wrong at a first HYROX is almost never fitness. It's the transitions, the pacing in the first run, and the moment you arrive at a station already in the red. None of that is testable in a normal training session, where you set your own pace and rest when you need to.
A simulation is the only way to find out what happens to your plan under race conditions — and it's considerably cheaper than finding out in Anaheim.
The second thing worth knowing: it's a four-hour window for an event that takes about 90 minutes. That's what the wave structure means — you're not all starting at eight. Expect a start time rather than a turn-up time, and check it when you book.

Who This Is Actually For
- Anyone racing HYROX Anaheim. This is a dress rehearsal three weeks out, which is close to ideal — long enough to fix what you learn, short enough that your fitness won't change much.
- Anyone who has never done a HYROX and is thinking about it. Doing one under race conditions for $45, at a gym in Pacific Beach, is a far lower-stakes way to find out whether you like it than entering an actual race.
- Doubles and relay teams who haven't practised together. The handoffs are the thing nobody rehearses, and they're where teams lose time. If you're racing as a pair, this is more valuable to you than to a solo.
- Anyone who wants a benchmark. A timed result under consistent conditions is a number you can train against. That's harder to get than it sounds.
Good to Know
- Check your wave time when you book. Four-hour window, wave starts — your start time is not 8 a.m. unless you're in the first wave.
- Treat it like a race, because that's the point. Eat what you'd eat, warm up how you'd warm up, wear what you'd wear. Turning up casually and winging it wastes most of the value.
- Write down your splits. The entire justification for a simulation is the data. Going home without your station times and transition notes means you paid $45 for a hard workout.
- Bring your own race kit — shoes you'll actually race in, and whatever you plan to carry. Discovering your shoes don't work for sled push is exactly what this is for.
- Doubles and relay teams: practise the handoff. It's the one thing you can't train alone and the one thing that will cost you.
- It's a Sunday morning, so Saturday night is a factor. Plan accordingly.
Why It's Worth It
HYROX has grown fast enough that a lot of people are now signed up for races they've never rehearsed. Gyms running full simulations are the bridge, and they're not common — a proper one needs the stations, the space, the timing and enough people to run waves.
$45 for a timed, staged, full-format run-through, with other people racing alongside you, is a genuinely good deal against an entry fee and a drive to Anaheim where you find out the same things for considerably more money.
And if the race side isn't your thing, the same gym runs the other half of its personality: Halloween + HYROX on Friday, October 30, 7–10 p.m., also $45 — a DJ, a costume contest, tacos, a bar, and a HYROX-style workout in the middle of it. Same building, nine days earlier, entirely different night.
