La Jolla Village Opens Its Doors All at Once on November 22 — Not One Festival, the Whole Village

No main stage, no central venue. Businesses throughout the Village each do their own thing on the same Sunday afternoon — cocoa, music, raffles, kids' crafts.

Overview

The La Jolla Holiday Open House is on Sunday, November 22, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — and it isn't laid out like other holiday events.

The La Jolla Village Merchants Association puts it plainly: "Rather than one centralized festival, businesses throughout the Village join together."

So there's no main stage, no gated area and no central venue. It's the whole village deciding to do something on the same Sunday afternoon.

Each participating business runs its own offering — and from the association's own description, that means:

  • Hot cocoa
  • Live music
  • Raffles and promotions
  • Artist demonstrations
  • Kids' crafts
  • Photo spots
  • Customer appreciation parties

Together it adds up to a day of shopping, eating, music, treats and, in their words, "holiday surprises."

Here's the one piece of practical advice that actually matters for an event shaped like this.

Get the poster.

Because there's no central venue, the only way to know who's taking part is the event poster — and the association distributes it in the first week of November, listing every participating business.

Without it you're wandering Girard and Prospect guessing which doors are open. With it, you can plan a route. Watch their channels in early November and pick it up, or grab one in a shop window when you arrive.

How to Go

  • When: Sunday, November 22, 2026, 11 a.m.–4 p.m.
  • Where: throughout La Jolla Village — no single venue
  • Admission: not published — see below
  • Organised by the La Jolla Village Merchants Association
  • Look for the participant poster, distributed from the first week of November

Good to Know

  • There's no central venue. Don't drive to one address looking for it.
  • Find the poster first. It's the participant list and it's the whole key to the day.
  • Five hours, eleven to four. A Sunday afternoon, not an evening event.
  • Park once and walk. The Village is compact and the event is spread across it, so one parking spot does the whole day.
  • The Cove is right there if you want a break from shops.
  • Admission isn't published, and we'd confirm — though with no gate and no central venue it's hard to see what would be charged for.
  • It's a busy weekend. See below.

Why It's Worth It

Most holiday markets are a row of pop-up stalls run by people who are gone by January. This is the opposite: it's the shops and restaurants that are there all year, doing something on the same day, in a village that's genuinely pleasant to walk around in late November.

It's also a low-commitment version of starting Christmas. No ticket, no queue, no ride on a train to somewhere with fake snow — just an afternoon in La Jolla where everything's open and somebody's handing out cocoa.

Find the poster, park once, and walk.

One scheduling note: that's a busy weekend in the county. The Doggie Street Festival and the Japanese Friendship Garden's handmade holiday market are both the Saturday, November 21 — so Saturday for dogs and Balboa Park, Sunday for La Jolla is a full and very doable weekend.
