This year it flies under a "Soaring into America's 250th" banner, tied to the nation's semiquincentennial.

Held on an active Marine Corps air station, it's part flight demonstration, part open house: headline jet teams, a signature Marine ground-and-air assault demo, civilian aerobatics, acres of static aircraft you can walk right up to, and an indoor expo inside a working F-18 hangar. Getting There & Parking

This is a 700,000-person event on a military base, so the logistics are the whole game:

• Parking is free, and staff direct you to the nearest lot as you enter. Free shuttles run from every lot to the flight line
• Gates: the Main (East) Gate is off the MCAS Miramar / Miramar Way exit from I-15; the North and West Gates are off the Miramar Road exit from I-15 or I-805
• No flight-line drop-offs — everyone parks and shuttles in, so don't plan to be dropped at the entrance
• Arrive early. Gate and parking lines build fast in the morning; getting there near the 8:00 AM open saves you the worst of it and gives you time for the static displays before the flying peaks

Good to Know

• Bring your ID — everyone 18+ needs it, and there's no entry without it; carry legal-status documentation if you're not a U.S. citizen
• Check the prohibited-items list before you pack — it's an active base with real security; the official FAQ spells out what's allowed
• Dress for the flight line — it's open tarmac with little shade and it gets hot; sunscreen, hats, water, and ear protection for little kids go a long way
• All three days run the same general schedule, so pick whichever day fits — though weekends draw the biggest crowds
• Free is genuinely free — for most families there's nothing to buy; premium seating and hospitality are optional upgrades if you want shade and a reserved spot
