Escondido Will Put You in the Parade on Veterans Day — Veterans Ride the Float or a Packard

The parade steps off at 9:30 on Grand Avenue. And if you served, you don't have to watch it — there's a form, and they'll put you on the float.

Overview

The 7th Annual North County VetFest runs in Escondido on Wednesday, November 11 — Veterans Day itself — with the parade stepping off at 9:30 a.m. down Grand Avenue.

Here's the thing on their website that nobody talks about, and it's the best reason to write this article.

If you're a veteran, you can be in the parade. There's a form, and it takes two minutes.

They run two ways to ride:

  • On the Veterans Float
  • As a Packard Passenger — in a vintage Packard

The sign-up asks for your name, your phone number, your branch of service, which of the two you'd prefer, and a short paragraph about your service. Email is optional. There's no fee published and no deadline published.

Every branch is listed — Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard, Coast Guard.

That's a genuinely good offer and it's buried on a sign-up page. If you served, or your father or grandmother did, this is the link to send them. Riding down Grand Avenue in an old Packard on Veterans Day is a better morning than standing on the kerb.

The Parade

  • Steps off 9:30 a.m. sharp
  • Down Grand Avenue, Escondido
  • Roads close at 7:30 a.m.
  • Parade entries check in between 7:30 and 9:00 a.m.

If you're participating rather than watching, their guidance is to park off-site if you arrive early, and not to park in the staging areas until the roads close at 7:30.

There's also a festival afterwards at the American Legion Post. (See the note below — the organisers publish very little about it.)

Who Puts It On

Two organisations: American Legion J.B. Clark Post 149 and Brothers of 6 Charities, Inc.

Post 149 "has welcomed all VETERANS from every branch of our Armed Forces since 1919" — so this is a hundred-and-seven-year-old post running its own town's Veterans Day. They say the Legion helps sponsor scholarships for local children and gives aid to local veterans and their families.

The event depends on sponsor donations, in their own words. Sponsorship runs from $250 for a Bronze listing up to $10,000 for the title slot, if that's of interest to a local business.

Parade Rules Worth Knowing

If you're entering, these are theirs, and some are firmer than you'd expect:

  • Nothing thrown or handed to the crowd. "Failure to comply will result in the IMMEDIATE DISQUALIFICATION of your entry"
  • No alcohol. "Absolutely no alcoholic beverages will be permitted"
  • No political campaigning
  • No stopping along the route — each entry names one monitor, and the instruction is to "allow no more than 20 feet between units"
  • Animal groups must clean up after their animals
  • Don't harass residents or their pets

The no-stopping and twenty-foot rules tell you they've run this seven times and learned something.

How to Go

  • When: Wednesday, November 11, 2026. Parade steps off 9:30 a.m.
  • Where: Grand Avenue, Escondido. Festival afterwards at the American Legion Post
  • Roads close: 7:30 a.m.
  • To ride in the parade as a veteran: the Veteran Sign Up form on their site
  • To enter the parade: the Parade Participant Application
  • Admission: not published — see below
  • Venue address: not published — see below

Good to Know

  • Veterans can ride. Float or Packard. That's the headline — use the form.
  • 9:30 sharp, and roads close two hours before.
  • It's on Veterans Day itself, a Wednesday.
  • Fallbrook's parade is the same morning, starting at 10 — see below.
  • No admission price is published anywhere on their site.
  • No street address is published for the parade route or the festival. Worth calling Post 149 before you drive.
  • Check parking yourself. They publish guidance for participants only, nothing for spectators.

Why It's Worth It

Escondido's Veterans Day is run by a Legion post that has been there since 1919, on the actual day, down the actual main street, with a float and a vintage Packard full of veterans in it.

It isn't slick and it doesn't need to be. And the thing that makes it genuinely worth sharing is that it isn't a spectator event if you don't want it to be — anyone who served can fill in a form and be part of it.

Send that link to someone.

If you're choosing between events: the Fallbrook parade runs the same morning at 10, so you'd have to pick one. The Mount Soledad ceremony is on Saturday the 7th — four days earlier, and no weekday off required.
